Towards the end of last year we were incredibly fortune to have been flown out to Iceland to photograph the union of Cammie and Neoh at Skalakot on the South coast.
Before we begin, you may like to hear how Cammie & Neoh felt about their images.
‘We love, love, love the photos. When we were looking through the many many portfolios out there, I knew instantly that yours was special but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it! now that we have the full album to admire in our daily daydreaming breaks (and also with Neoh educating me!), I really learned to appreciate how very talented you both are..! The composition, colours, how it seemed like you were everywhere at once… every photo was a masterpiece, I want to print them all!!‘
Iceland wedding photography – the story behind the images. As you may have gathered from the rest of our website, one of our super powers is that we can photograph and film at the same time, this is called Hybrid shooting and was a service Cammie and Neoh booked us for. We love offering short films and gathering b-roll for the film in a place like Iceland made our job pretty easy, especially with the horses around the venue! Skalakot is a boutique hotel on the South Coast, roughly 30-40 minutes from both the mighty Skogafoss waterfall and the famed black beach at Vik, Reynisfjara – both firm favourites for travellers and photographers alike. The hotel is the perfect stopover whilst exploring the island.
The team at Skalakot deserve a mention for their exceptional customer service and attentiveness, as well as the planner, Eva who co-ordinated the day and helped Cammie and Neoh plan from their home in Malaysia.
The weather in Iceland, well it is not predictable, anyone who has been can attest to this and so it is for adventurous couples who are happy to brave the elements to say their vows in the vast and wild landscape. Cammie and Neoh opted for an outside ceremony fortunately just outside the hotel, and you would think this would have made planning the ceremony time a breeze but the wind and rain had other ideas! I don’t think we have ever seen a ceremony time change so many times and the Skalakot team were amazing, bringing the chairs in and out many times as the conditions changed so frequently within such a short space of time!
All of us couples have ‘our thing’ – similar interests or pursuits, Cammie and Neoh’s special interest is aurora borealis chasing, they even went out on the night of the wedding – we were even exceptionally lucky to see it ourselves which we understand is not so common in September! As Iceland is one of our favourite places to explore, we decided to bring Cato along with us and seeing his excitement when the lights appeared made it worth all the moaning, as teenagers do not express excitement over much! Speaking of Cato, Cammie and Neoh and all of the hotel staff were so attentive and caring. Skalakot is a small hotel and as we were staying there, Cato happily stayed in his room having room service and watching TV, having various members of staff ask if they could bring him snacks throughout the day. The intimate wedding party had exclusive use of the venue and we obviously checked with Cammie and Neoh prior to deciding to bring Cato, they were more than happy to have him stay and even asked if he would like to join us for dinner, I seriously cannot express the kindness of these people. Cato declined the invitation in favour of his robe and TV, but was very grateful for the invite, as were we!
We were very much made to feel like part of the wedding party all day, everyone was extremely welcoming and happy to have us join them, which really helps when it comes to the coverage of the day! With intimate and destination weddings, we do find that we develop a closer relationship with our couples and often are asked to attend pre and post wedding celebrations.
On this occasion, Cammie and Neoh decided to keep all of their photos within the surroundings of the hotel, as the weather was somewhat unpredictable. We still managed to get some beautiful portraits showing the setting of the hotel. The unique design of the hotel facade made for some interesting ceremony photos and we very much enjoyed the symmetry for portraits! Cammie and Neoh’s Icelandic elopement wedding was a career highlight for us both, and here is a selection of images from the day.
Our second time in Iceland shooting a wedding, and we hope to be there again soon, it has a very special place in our hearts. We would love to hear from you if you are planning an iceland elopement and need an experienced iceland wedding photographer.
